What’s having three kids really like? UPDATED!

So the Doctor and the Dad recently had another baby. Which, if you’re keeping score at home, means we now have three – count ‘em three – kiddos to cuddle, care for, and contend with.

Before Niña Número Tres came along, we’d heard a lot of stories about what it was like going from having two kids to having three kids. Things like:

  • You’ll need to switch from playing man-to-man to playing a zone defense,
  • Even though you’re only adding 50% more kid, it feels about 500 times harder,
  • They’re totally going to gang up on you, and
  • Two? Three? What’s the difference? You’re gonna’ be just fine.

So now that we’ve actually taken this triple-offspring plunge ourselves, we decided to record some of our own experiences and observations as they happen, so that you too, can discover what having three kids is really like!

If you’ve been reading our updates about what having three kids is really like, you know that adding that third kiddo seems to have resulted in at least one person in our family being sick all the freaking time.

So I guess you could say we’re kind of experts on the subject. (Yippee.)

That’s why it came as no surprise to us when Catherine Phelan over at rebates.com interviewed us for an article she was writing about how parents can deal with sick kids, being sick themselves or both.

If you’ve spent much time on our site, you may know that we’re big fans of the good old fashioned family dinner. When your family regularly sits down to distraction-free, conversation-filled meals, your kids really come out ahead.

But what should your dinnertime conversations be about?

We used to think pretty much anything was fair game…until we read Raising a Healthy, Happy Eater: A Stage-by-Stage Guide to Setting Your Child on the Path to Adventurous Eating by pediatrician Dr. Nimali Fernando and children’s food coach Melanie Potock.
