7 Reasons We Have the Best Dad Ever!

In celebration of Andy’s 7th year as a father, Amber and the kids have listed the 7 reasons we think he’s the best dad ever!

1. He fills our life with music

Dad fills our life with music

Andy brings music to our days in so many different ways. Like playing songs on the piano that our one-year-old baby girl sings along to, teaching our seven-year-old daughter and four-year-old son piano lessons, and picking out fun songs to play for the kids – including the recent family favorite: “Raining Tacos.”

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

I like his beautiful songs that he plays.

Four-Year-Old Son

Yeah! I like that!

One-Year-Old Baby Girl

Yeah! Sing!

2. He cooks a mean meal

Dad cooks a mean meal

Awesome potato-filled egg scrambles, spaghetti and meatballs, macaroni and cheese, pancakes… Andy has lots of culinary specialties that span every meal. And we all LOVE to eat them!

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

I love his spaghetti and meatballs! It’s so yummy!

Four-Year-Old Son

I really like that too!

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

And I like to help daddy cook because it’s fun.

One-Year-Old Baby Girl

Yeah. Yeah! Noodles!

3. He’s really funny

Dad is really funny

Thanks to Andy, things are never serious for long around here. He keeps us laughing ALL the time.

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

I like him because he’s funny.

Four-Year-Old Son

Funny? I did not know that! (giggling) I like about him that he is weird and funny.

One-Year-Old Baby Girl

Andy! (Laughs maniacally at her own joke of calling her dad by his first name.)

4. He can fix almost anything

Dad can fix almost anything

If Andy doesn’t already know how to fix something, he’s not shy about chasing down the manual and figuring out how. And the kids know it. If they break a toy or tear a book page, they know immediately which parent to call.

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

He fixed my horse – my unicorn on a stick.

Four-Year-Old Son

I like that he can fix things. But nothing breaks that I have. (Likely story.)

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

He fixes my boo-boos with kisses.

One-Year-Old Baby Girl

Yeah. E I O E I.

5. He’s seriously fun

Dad is seriously fun

Anyone who knows Andy knows that he LOVES games. Well, mostly he loves explaining the rules, but he also likes to play them a lot too. And that makes the kids very happy, because playing with daddy is one of their favorite things ever!

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

I like that he’s fun. Like when you’re at yoga, Daddy always reads like three chapters of a book and then he lets us play for a minute and he plays with us and then we go to bed late. (Busted, Andy.)

Four-Year-Old Son

I like when we play games together.

Mommy

What games?

Four-Year-Old Son

Like every game!

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

I liked it when he taught me football. We learned the fake pass where I stand behind Daddy and when he says ‘hike’ I run and pretend to grab the ball but then he throws it to me.

Four-Year-Old Son

He likes playing ball with us!

One-Year-Old Baby Girl

Um.. um… um.. Aye, aye… (Arms rolling like she’s doing a complicated dance move. It’s possible Andy taught her the move – after all, he DID win a dance competition one time.)

6. He helps with whatever we need

Dad helps with whatever we need

This landing in the top seven was a bit of a surprise to Amber, but the kids kept saying over and over how much they liked that Andy helped them with things. Andy is always there for whatever the kids need, and they know it. And it really, really means a lot to them.

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

I like when Daddy helps me when I don’t know how to do something. I like it when he teaches me piano.

Four-Year-Old Son

I didn’t know how to build a LEGO and he helped me.

One-Year-Old Baby Girl

Um… um… (Breaks into huge giggles.)

7. He has a special bond with each of us

Dad has a special bond with each of us

We all share this list of favorite things about Andy, but since each of the kids has their own unique relationship with him, they all had something different they wanted to finish with.

Four-Year-Old Son

How old is he again? I like how old he is right now.

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

I like it when Daddy is sweet and fun. But he’s always actually sweet and fun.

Four-Year-Old Son

Cuddles!

One-Year-Old Baby Girl

Aye, aye. Me. (Her eyes are closed and she’s got a sweet, cuddly smile on her face.)

Seven-Year-Old Daughter

Daddy is so nice.

Four-Year-Old Son

I like that he is good.

One-Year-Old Baby Girl

Big Dad EVER!
